Lots of the information in this post won't be new to my students in the SFKF, but I will write for anyone who wants to read about it. I am Grand Master Thomas Daw, I own and run the SFKF for a hobby.
I started Snake Fist karate in 2008 and quickly got into the style. I enjoy Snake Fist because it's main strength is in the use of hand striking techniques. I started martial arts properly with Taekwondo and I enjoyed being able to kick better than most, and still do. But over the years, even studying different styles in clubs, I found that my hands were nowhere near as strong as my feet. I can honestly say that Snake Fist Karate is number 1 for hand techniques, of all the styles I have studied. From experience, I think that those who like boxing or people who like Wing Chun would love Snake Fist Karate.
Any martial art style is only as good as the effort the individual puts into training in it. I was so impressed by Snake Fist Karate, I decided to commit all of the hand striking techniques to memory, with applications. I sent a video of me doing all these moves to Guinness World Records, many years ago. GWR told me that they haven't got any way of verifying it as a record. So now you know that I am too good for Guinness World Records! Many people know the demo is a world record, and to be honest, that record is probably never going to be broken, especially as you would need to be at least a master in martial arts, just to verify all the techniques. I recently sent a more recent record attempt, that counts the moves, to GWR, and have still heard nothing back: maybe they don't like being unable to verify something? In real life, I can still demonstrate more hand strikes in under 3 minutes than anyone on earth- the record is more different hand strikes I might add; anyone can do one punch over and over. Home study martial arts are a great way to get fit from home and learn moves that can save your life one day. You can train without pressure, and teach your entire family Snake Fist Karate; I can certify anyone up to 7th Dan, as long as they are registered members of SFKF. And, in the SFKF, you don't have to be a beginner to join- we have experts in other styles too in the SFKF. I know in some groups, they don't allow anyone who is already a black belt in other styles, but the SFKF does! We don't discriminate in the SFKF. You can learn Karate and open a Dojo if you wish.
For those on a budget, the SFKF is a dream come true. The only other martial arts clubs online that offer so much for so little are the other clubs I run personally. Why should learning martial arts be only for the wealthy? Some people have always wanted to learn martial arts, but their instructor moved away, or the local club was shit: thousands of people never had any local Dojo to begin with! Some people have disabilities and are too shy to train in groups in a traditional Dojo, and private lessons are too expensive. I am fully aware that many people did Snake Fist Karate years ago, and there was no community online or anything: SFKF was made for you as much as for the beginners! Join a group of people that like Snake Fist, and learn extra moves that complement the existing syllabus. I created the Snake Fist Karate video program to beef up Snake Fist Karate and make it even stronger than it already is. The SFKF video program is over 7 HOURS!! And, I have a no-nonsense guide book that helps you from beginner to advanced levels. It was hard work doing all the videos and seminar courses, but I love Snake Fist anyway, so it was more fun than work. There is also the SFKF page on Facebook for anyone interested.
Now there may be some martial artists that focus more on traditional styles, that think Snake Fist is not real, or weak. Snake Fist Karate is one of the strongest styles I have ever trained in. Yes, I admit that Snake Fist Karate is not centuries old, there is no pomp and mystique, or ceremony involved. But Snake Fist is a modern, no-nonsense Karate style that is made for a modern world. What many people don't know, is that many experts who have spent years studying other styles, have taken all the best bits of these styles and made new ones. Why bother learning all these different styles for years, when you can take a dramatic short-cut and start with strong, modern styles, made for modern combat? As a human race we have to evolve and adapt to survive, and so martial arts have to evolve as we do, to be relevant to modern day self defense. I think that Snake Fist Karate is influenced most by Shorin-Ryu Karate, with maybe a little bit of an American Kenpo influence.
Anyone is welcome in the SFKF, and when you join, I will chat with you via email personally. I am the leader of the group, but I am actively involved, and am probably one of the most down to earth Grand Masters you will ever meet. Stuck on 5th Dan, for example? I'm already there- I can probably guess where before I even get told the problem.
The SFKF is the place to be for anyone who wants to learn a strong Karate, or anyone already into Snake Fist who wants more. In time, there will be more seminars just for SFKF members- they will be unavailable to the general public. The SFKF is a real Karate Federation with students worldwide. Today you could be bored out of your mind, reading this post for lack of anything better to do. This time next year you could be an active Snake Fist Karate Instructor, verified by the SFKF, with my blessing. And, for those who want a bit of power to back up their skills, if you give me lots of students, I can make you the top in your city, area or even country, in SFKF. Fortune honours the brave.
You train hard and learn moves, then you teach others and make a little money on the side. But for those who already have hundreds of students, SFKF is a license to print money. If you have a large amount of students, I can pay you for each one that joins. The more effort you put in, the more you will be rewarded in return: join a martial arts group that values its membership for a change. Tell your friends, get people involved and we will have more courses and options for our SFKF members in return. The more the merrier in the SFKF.
Now what's all this about the real Cobra Kai? Well, simply put, Snake Fist is a modern Karate, maybe decades old, that comes from California. Whilst we are serious martial artists, not actors, technically, Snake Fist karate is the nearest you will get to the Cobra Kai, in real life. We don't have any competition in the SFKF, but students are welcome to compete, to represent us if they wish. SFKF has students worldwide.
